Feedyard Maintenance Manager
Candidate Description:
This Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT candidate has been a maintenance manager at a large feedyard for the last 9 years. He has taken multiple courses while employed there, including a leadership development course, advanced hydraulics training, programmable logic controller training, hydraulics training, and electrical training. He has been a leader in developing state of the art cattle processing and sorting equipment, an automated heavy equipment system and many other projects. He is responsible for prioritizing and organizing preventive, corrective, deferred and/or emergency maintenance of the feedlot facilities and equipment, including, but not limited to the feed mill, sprinkler systems, processing barn, water wells, etc. He directs the maintenance and repairs of water tanks, main lines, bunk pads, neck rails, and other facility infrastructure. Evaluating, designing, modifying and repairing equipment. Maintaining equipment to prevent unnecessary downtime by ensuring it is utilized, cleaned and maintained properly and that all preventative maintenance is completed in a timely fashion. Identifying technical problems and providing practical solutions. Ensuring quality and efficient repair work and fabrication for new construction. It has been his responsibility to oversee a well-equipped machine/fabrication shop for building equipment of the highest standard imaginable, as well as managing a separate maintenance group that takes care of cattle containment, water systems from the well to the waterers with pipes ranging from 3/4"-10" PVC, and HDPE effluent pipes up to 12". He is responsible for leading the maintenance and operation of a large sprinkler system used to mitigate dust and ease heat stress on the cattle.
