Candidate Description:

This Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT candidate grew up on a farm giving him a great base of Ag knowledge and work ethic. It was an irrigated farm that produced a multitude of crops. From the farm he went to the University of Idaho where he got degrees in Ag Business and Ag Systems Management. Knowing that he was paying for college, he took 18-21 credits while working full time to get through as fast as possible. While at university he was a member of a fraternity, participating in philanthropy projects to give back to the community and was an ambassador for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, recruiting students for the university. After college he got a position as a Large Seed Vegetable Agronomist in the Pacific Northwest where he developed a new growing region for the company and developed a field scouting program that is used company-wide now. The scouting program is based on real time collection and data analytics with a feature to help manage worker protection standards for crews. He was responsible for allocation, forecasting, contracting, and payments for growers. Wanting to move up in the company, he started his master’s degree at Iowa State University in Seed Technology and Business, half agronomy and half MBA. He also acquired his Certified Crop Advisor. Wanting to get more into management he was promoted to a Plant Operations Lead in central Nebraska overseeing a crew of 20 full time employees and up to 30 part time employees. It gave him a great understanding of HR related issues and managing employees. While there he was part of a team that started a Safety Committee for the site, helping to promote HSE with a bottom-up focus. Meeting targets and developing team members for their future was a great achievement. He was a part of many capital projects and improvements for the site, helped achieve budgets and shipping demands for the Q4 target, which took good direction from him and follow through from his team, and was part of a team that worked on connecting backend systems to help data flow and reduce downtime for the company. From there he took a position as a Seed Division Manager at a co-op and was responsible for creating and managing a budget including capital projects. He had a team of 4 full time employees and 4 seasonal employees. Moving from a corporation to a small coop gave him a good understanding of how flexible one must be in a smaller company. Being a manager there he wore many different caps, from seeking his own employees to cleaning out bins. He trained agronomists to bring them up to speed on best practices for the crop, trained the sales team on current offerings and future ones that they need to start keeping an eye out for and developed a product life cycle for the company and started a trialing program to manage new varieties. He increased sales and regained customers that the company had lost and brought in new accounts to grow the business through wholesale and direct sales.
