Farm / Ranch Manager
Candidate Description:
This Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT candidate has been a farmer his entire life but owned/leased his own property for 11 years, managing his own herd of 125 pairs as well as growing crops including: alfalfa, wheat, beans, soybeans, sunflowers, and corn. He managed the sale and transportation of all those crops. More recently in Wyoming he focused solely on the production of dairy hay and dealt with individual farmers and ranchers as well as hay brokers in the sale of that product. When the family farm fell on hard times, he went to work for the local John Deere dealer. While there he was able to assist many farmers and ranchers in finding the right equipment for their operation as well as give production advice if requested. He also took the time to assist in product assembly and training of new employees. While his job was specifically sales, he took on whatever was needed in any situation to get the job done, which included the management of other employees and projects if necessary. Currently he is Agriculture Manager for a large ranch growing the farm side of their business and backgrounding calves. Currently they run 8,500 yearlings through feedlots on the property in the winter and send the calves to grass for the summer. Their crop production is all forage based where they farm over 3000 acres of alfalfa, grass hay, triticale silage and sorghum silage. He oversees 9 full-time employees and 18 H2A workers. He guides and directs every aspect of the operation and is very much a hands-on manager, most of the time you will find him in a tractor or chopper.
