Farm / Ranch

Candidate Description:

This candidate was raised on a century farm that produces commercial cattle, sheep, and small grains. Starting in high school he began helping with the haying and the irrigation. After high school he went to a trade school and received an equipment operation certificate. During college he worked at an elevator and for a farmer close to the college. When college was completed he returned home and became a full time employee on the family farm and did extra work on the side for extra income. Since returning he has been involved with all aspects of the farm. He has prepared fields for planting and tended the crops clear through harvest. He has been a part of and made the decisions on haying from cutting to storing and fertilizing. At the start of summer he sprays the crops and the weeds on rangeland. In the winter he helps with the feeding plan of their cattle for a easier calving. During calving he takes care of the cows and works the calves and pulls the ones that need help. And depending on where he's needed most he has jug lambed the ewes. Throughout the year he helps maintain the equipment, fences and buildings. And when needed constructs new buildings. In the last couple years they have started raising hogs and building facilities for them. Throughout the years he has moved from just a farmhand to more of an assistant management roll, making decisions and deals when he can. His Ideal position would be a long-term position with a farm or ranch where he can use his varied abilities to better the operation and assist wherever needed. He would like to have the opportunity to be able to move into more of an assistant management role or if it is a smaller operation he would like to be able to work the place until he could possibly overtake it. He would prefer to be in a family friendly place with a good community, good schools and job opportunities for his wife.
