Job Description:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a large dairy located in Colorado who is searching for highly qualified Assistant Manager for their for their operation. Successful candidate must be a self-starting, goal-oriented, hard-working individual with ability to share vision of the dairy and use leadership skills to empower employees to succeed. Assistant Manager will fill in for Dairy Manager when he is absent.
This position will oversee entirety of the Calf Raising Program which includes:
Manage hutch calf area and health: *Play an active role in feeding, diagnosing, treating hutch calves and weaned calves in group pens, *Ensure proper detection and treatment of sick calves, *Monitor proper vaccine administration, *Manage feeding amounts, milk quality, milk consistency and temperature, grain intakes, *Collect Blood Proteins on newborn calves as directed, *Ensure proper sanitation of all equipment, *Manage cleanliness of calf pens with bedding, scraping, etc., *Oversee the proper documentation of health events/medications administered. *Calculate Average Daily Gains using individual birth and weaning weights. *Manage the employees in this area, ensuring quality work and creating a team environment.
Manage maternity area: *Oversee maternity staff, *Ensure procedures are followed- dipping navels, vaccines administered, proper colostrum collection and feeding, *Monitor colostrum quality, *Ensure the cleanliness of feeding equipment, calf pens, maternity pens, *Oversee the proper documentation of feedings, calvings, vaccinations.
Work closely with Dairy Manager to further develop calf program: *Continue to fine tune procedures to gain efficiency, *Develop protocol changes as necessary, *Increase skills and leadership capabilities of all staff, *Maintain positive workplace attitude with employees, *Set goals and develop plans to reach goals.
Assist in other areas of dairy management when necessary:
*Manage feed bunks when called upon, *Complete data entry into Dairy Comp and create task lists when required to do so, *Manage off-site heifer yards on intermittent basis (could become permanent responsibility in time), * Be willing to cover emergency/after-hours calls on a part time basis, *Participate in management meetings. These include financial discussions, goal-setting, procedural changes, employee reviews, consulting with professionals, animal health topics, etc..
