- Prefer a candidate who's been in a lead position in a feedlot, ranch, or even a dairy operation
- Prefer 2-3 years of experience working with animal health, nutrition, calving, recip cows, AI, all in the setting of feedlot to grazing on irrigated circles
- Prefer good animal health skills; Spot, Diagnose, Treat/Doctor cattle of all ages.
- Feed, pen maintenance, facility upkeep, yard sanitization


Hansen Agri Placement is searching for a good Backgrounding Manager responsible for day-to-day operations of this 10,000 hd backgrounding yard located in southern Montana. The owner would like to find a person who can operate and run this location without supervision. Need to have good Animal Health skills; spotting, diagnosing, and treating cattle. The person will assist in animal health, feeding, pen maintenance, etc, just all aspects of this yard. A person needs to have a good attitude and be a good communicator. Will need to have some prior experience in leadership and making a schedule for day-to-day operations working with up to 10 full-time people. Communicate with the owner on daily basis. Good feedlot and facilities have been and will continue to be upgraded. The backgrounding yard is in a good location for a family and schools, which makes this a good opportunity for a long-term position. Summary: Oversee all background feedlot operations and staff.
Cattle Department: Shipping/Receiving; Processing; Pen Riders and protocols; Drug and Vaccine Management; sorting; cattle weighing, Pen logistics; dead management; necropsy reports; implement vet protocols; accurate cattle inventory, implement horse and dog policy.
Feedlot Maintenance: Water tanks; gates; fencing; processing barn; squeeze chute; scale; pen cleaning; manure management; mowing/snow removal; weed/fly control; water system management; silage pile management; New construction – in house and outsourced.
Feed Department: Bunk call and management; bunk hay; commodity inventory; Equipment/Truck maintenance; Feed truck management; commodity storage; Feed administration. Hay grinding. Grain processing.
HR Responsibilities: Policy development and enforcement; employee schedules; employee management and reviews; assist in hiring and firing. Policy. Communication. Execution. Enforcement
Administration: knowledge to fix and train employees on Feedlot Computer systems. Responsible for accurate and timely hardcopy reports, accurate information into feedlot computer system, end of day report, etc.
Supervise: Feed truck drivers, maintenance crew, processing crew, feedlot head cowboy, pen riders, doctors, Commodity/Cattle Clerks.
