- Worked full-time on a calf raising or feeding operation for at least one year

- Self-starter that is capable of managing their own time to achieve the goals of the position
- Microsoft Office programs proficiency
- Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation


- The needs of this business are not confined to typical workday hours. Livestock care is necessary 365 days/year. As such, the ability and willingness to work early and late hours as well as weekends and holidays is required.

- Providing daily care of livestock can entail lifting heavy bags, buckets, bales, etc. The ability to safely lift and carry at least 50lbs is required.
- Ability to work independently to provide animal care and achieve animal health and performance goals is a must

Job Description:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing an established dairy operation who are searching for a Calf Herdsman. The selected candidate for this position will provide elite animal care by growing and developing healthy calves to maximize their reproductive performance.


The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct the day-to-day care of all calves in the calf raising facilities. The goal is to maximize growth of calves in this segment through meticulous and careful management and care. Focus on cleanliness, organization, attention to detail, and a passion for animal agriculture are a must to be considered for this position. General responsibilities are outlined below:
  1. Accountable for the overall success of the calf raising program at.
    1. Meet or exceed KPI goals of calf raising program including animal growth, animal health, and client satisfaction
  2. Provide daily care of all livestock
    1. Including but not limited to: feeding and watering, bedding and scraping, and cleaning and sanitizing
    2. Follow BMP/SOP for day-to-day animal care and sanitation
    3. Ensure calf care and comfort are held to the highest standard
  3. Monitor and maintain animal health and performance
    1. Provide early identification of health events
    2. Vaccinate and treat calves
    3. Complete health testing on calves
    4. Communicate regularly with Veterinarian and other farm staff
    5. Complete regular animal weights
    6. Document animal health data to ensure accuracy and completeness
    7. Exceed animal health and growth goals
  4. Assist in developing and implementing animal care protocols
  5. Guide and train Farm Support Staff as they are available
  6. Assist Donor Herdsman and Farm Manager with other farm responsibilities
