QUALIFICATIONS:

- High school diploma or equivalent, technical degree preferred, 2 year working experience
- Ability to speak Spanish/English is preferred
- Basic mathematics including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to draw and interpret graphic displays to display information (ie., bar graph, pie chart, line graph, etc.)
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to expand role to learn new duties as applicable

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking a Diesel Shop Mechanic for a custom forage harvesting operation. The mechanic will work closely with ownership, management, and other employees in a teamwork environment to achieve company goals. This position supports activities within a shop geared to maintaining the implements, tractors, vehicles, and related equipment required for a forage harvest operation. Majority of work hours (70%) will be dedicated to diesel trucks, and to a lesser extent (30%) harvesting equipment, pickups and vans. Performs all other related work tasks as assigned. Must be proficient in diagnosis and repair for equipment such as vehicles, tractors, gear driven implements, engines, hydraulic systems, 12-volt electrical systems, spraying equipment such as pumps, valves, and plumbing, and other farming related equipment. Must be proficient in welding and metal fabrication including knowledge of the various types of metals and their properties. Must be able to read, understand, and facilitate repairs and maintenance according to manufacturers recommended processes. Must be productive and capable of keeping pace within the context of a busy operation. Must be conscious of the consequences of making poor choices with respect to repair strategies. Must be cognizant of the consequences of poor maintenance in equipment. Must be cognizant in the consequences of failing to maintain a safe and clean working environment. Must be sensitive to deadlines and the relationship between maintained equipment and operational productivity. Must possess both good judgment and common sense in abundance. This is a team environment in which the ability to cooperate to achieve mutual goals is paramount. Must possess clear written and oral communication skills. Exceptional communication skills are required. Must be willing to take the initiative as relates to learning new technology and applying new information appropriately without financial risk to the company (i.e. do not try a new process without management approval and expert oversight). Must be able to apply knowledge to solve a variety of problems. Must be willing to seek help and advice when unsure of a repair strategy. Because this company does not have many employees assigned to this responsibility, it is important that every member of the team show up as scheduled.

The Agricultural Shop Mechanic must:
- Perform inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment such as checking batteries or changing oil
- Inspect various parts of vehicles including brake systems, wheel bearings and steering mechanisms to ensure they are in proper condition and working effectively
- Use different tools and equipment such as pressure gauges, pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, screwdrivers, hoists and jacks while constantly utilizing safety precautions
- Test drive vehicles to find issues, determine effective solutions and ensure solutions were properly implemented
- Maintain an organized, safe, and clean working environment
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of spare parts, repair materials, tools, petroleum products, and other items necessary for an efficient shop operation
- Maintain effective relationships with employees, agencies, and vendors
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers service specifications

- Operate a forklift to load and unload vehicles, delivery trucks, and move heavy equipment
