QUALIFICATIONS:

- Solid Production Management Experience Required
- Oversee Agronomist and production employees
- Directs and coordinates work activities, such as planting, irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, record keeping, etc.
- Soil analysis to determine type and quantity of fertilizer required for maximum production
- Inspection of equipment to ensure proper functioning
- Inspects fields to determine maturity dates of crops or to estimate potential crop damage
- Assist in the purchases of machinery, equipment, and supplies
- Hiring authority, transfer, and promote workers
- Enforce safety regulations and interpret policies
- Make decisions, solve problems, analyze information, evaluate results
- Organizing, planning, and prioritizing work
- Monitoring and controlling resources and management of material resources

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for an experienced Farm Manager for this large progressive northwestern Oregon crop producer. The Farm Manager will be responsible for planning, managing and executing all functions related to their assigned crop portfolio. (The Farm Manager is expected to work closely with management to ensure that all crop production, personnel and operational activities are appropriately managed, accurately documented and communicated in a timely manner.) This is a full-time position, with an average of 55-60 hours per week expected during the growing season. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong sense of pride in their work, possess a passion for agricultural production, maintain excellent communication streams with all crew members and management and carefully manage farm operations in order to maximize yields and quality while meeting budgetary and time goals.

Daily Operations - Identify and assign daily tasks based on current crop needs - Schedule employees to ensure all tasks are carried out in timely manner - Operate and trouble-shoot equipment as necessary - Provide management with regular reports on matters relating to crops, personnel and equipment - Ensure farm facilities and equipment are in safe, functional condition; identify and address any potential hazards - Ensure farm facilities and equipment are free of trash, debris, rodents, weeds and other items which may pose a human or food safety threat - Ensure that crop operations are in compliance with local, state and federal laws and all farm certifications - Maintain complete, accurate records relating to crop inputs, employee time and attendance, farm certifications and other areas as identified by management Crop Planning - Compile, review and identify trends in previous year’s crop input and harvest records - Work as part of management team to develop appropriate crop plan for upcoming year - Work as part of management team to establish appropriate crop rotations based on field availability and historical crop records to maximize productivity and ensure sustainability - Establish & meet appropriate targets for timing, crop yields and product quality Crop Management - Manage planting, growing and harvest of crops to meet or exceed target yields and quality - Manage irrigation activities based on crop needs, water availability and weather patterns - Monitor crop growth; identify & remedy potential problems or threats to crop health in timely fashion - Establish appropriate budgets and crop plans - Manage crop inputs in a cost-effective manner which aligns with prepared budgets - Identify & implement appropriate solutions for field preparation, planting, weeding, irrigation, pest control, fertilization and harvest of crops - Work closely with outside crop advisors to develop production plans which appropriately address crop production issues which may arise
