Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is assisting in a search for a Poultry Production Manager. Position has overall responsibility for all aspects of managing the pullets and layers on the assigned farm. The primary objective is to maximize profitability of egg production while also meeting their high standards for egg quality, food safety, humane animal care, environmental stewardship, and working conditions for the poultry care attendants. Responsibilities include: flock management, planning and scheduling to ensure optimal egg production and coordination to the extent possible across all farms for work flow optimization as well as management purposes, managing the nutrition program which includes working with the outside nutritionist for diet formulation and coordination with the feed mills, managing the vaccination program, selecting the strains of hens, scheduling all flock replacements, analyzing the flock records on at least a weekly basis, providing flock performance input and poultry management guidance to the Pullet and Layer Managers, work with the professional consultants retained by the farm, in addition to the nutritionist, including bench-marking consultants, on making critical management decisions.

Other duties include:

Oversee and manage procedures and processes related to egg production

Monitor animal health and productivity for all hens

Keep current on accepted practices, current methods and new developments relating to animal health and nutrition

Closely monitor animal production measurements and implement necessary changes to ensure optimal long term economic outcomes

Lead by example, actively participates in projects, looks for ways to improve practices, maintains a positive and constructive attitude, and is considered a team player

Play a key role on the farm management team

Meet established goals for farm and assists in setting goals for the future

Oversee analysis reports, and benchmarks productivity, operating expenses, and profitability

Manage flock records, analyze reports, and be responsible for creating and implementing schedules, including flock replacement schedules and lighting and vaccination schedules, for example

Be the primary individual who interacts with the nutritionist, providing input to the nutritionist on each flock on a weekly basis and who reviews the diets provided by the nutritionist to ensure that our goal of optimizing income from our flocks are being met. Ensures that the diets are being implemented properly at the feed mills by communicating constructively and effectively with the feed mill managers

Maintain a constructive and effective relationship with production and pullet managers to ensure that our husbandry practices and other poultry care practices are being properly implemented

Assist in the development of strategic plans to increase profitability

Look for opportunities to improve efficiency and safety

Act as a team player (supports and encourages co-workers and team members); treats all others with respect, including vendors so as to help maintain the standing of the farm in the community and egg and farming industry

Manage two pullet managers at each site, one or two production managers at the same sites, and will coordinate with the General Manager with respect to the production and pullet management personnel

Spend appropriate level of time on a regular basis visiting each flock, examining the hens, their care, being observant of all relevant factors including the state of building and equipment repair and proper operation of equipment and interacting with managers and poultry care attendants to remain aware of all factors relevant to the caretaking of the pullets and laying hens

Use poultry house environmental control portals to check relevant factors including feed and water use, temperatures, ventilation controls, lighting controls and alarm settings, and adjust or manage adjustments as appropriate
