Nevada Cattle Feeding & Backgrounding Operation
Position Overview
Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking a hands-on Cattle Manager for a progressive and rapidly growing cattle feeding and backgrounding operation located in Nevada. This family-owned operation currently feeds approximately 10,000 head of cattle through both natural and conventional programs, while also weaning 5,000–6,000 calves annually and managing an extensive grazing and backgrounding enterprise.
The Cattle Manager will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day cattle activities, supervising the cattle crew, maintaining animal health standards, ensuring compliance with natural cattle program requirements, and coordinating cattle movement throughout the operation. This is a working management position requiring approximately 85% field and yard work and 15% office and administrative responsibilities.
The successful candidate will work closely with ownership, the General Manager, and the Operations Manager to coordinate daily operations while helping establish long-term goals and strategies for the cattle program. This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys being directly involved with cattle every day while also taking ownership of leadership and management responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day cattle activities.
- Supervise and lead a cattle crew.
- Coordinate daily work assignments and ensure efficient completion of cattle-related activities.
- Work alongside crew members and lead by example in all aspects of cattle handling and care.
- Oversee cattle health programs and daily pen riding activities.
- Monitor cattle closely for health concerns and performance issues.
- Identify, evaluate, and coordinate treatment of sick cattle.
- Ensure proper animal handling practices are maintained throughout the operation.
- Oversee processing crews and cattle handling procedures.
- Administer and supervise cattle treatments as needed.
- Ensure treatment records are accurate and properly maintained.
- Verify compliance with all natural cattle program requirements.
- Ensure accurate inventory and movement records.
- Complete daily reporting and billing of cattle-related activities.
- Train, mentor, and develop cattle crew personnel.
Preferred Experience
- Previous feedyard, backgrounding, stocker, ranch, or cattle management experience.
- Experience with cattle health programs and pen riding.
- Strong cattle handling and stockmanship skills.
- Experience processing, doctoring, and receiving cattle.
- Knowledge of feedyard production systems and cattle performance monitoring.
- Experience supervising employees and leading teams preferred.
