Hansen Ag Placement is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) for a progressive, family-owned livestock, farming, and real estate operation in California. This is a hands-on operational leadership role supporting a private family office overseeing multiple entities, including cattle ranching, rice farming, and diversified real estate holdings. The COO will work directly with ownership to restore structure, manage day-to-day operations, and take pressure off the Owner. This is not a corporate role—this is a trust-based, service-oriented position where success depends on judgment, Integrity, reliability, and long-term fit.
Position Overview
Employer is seeking a high-level operations leader to oversee all aspects of the family office and related entities. This individual will work directly with ownership and the bookkeeper to manage operations, improve efficiency, and handle daily responsibilities while being totally transparent across the organization.
The right person will be someone who can learn the existing system, respect how things are done, and gradually take ownership of operations without overcomplicating processes, while keeping principals fully informed.
Primary Responsibilities:
Operations & Administration
- Oversee day-to-day operations across all entities
- Manage:
- Insurance (personal & commercial)
- Vehicle registration and compliance
- Property logistics and vendor coordination
- Take ownership of administrative processes and reduce Owner involvement
HR & Staffing (High Priority)
- Assist with hiring and placement of:
- AP/AR support staff
- Executive assistant
- Housekeeper and domestic staff
- Additional labor roles as needed
- Improve hiring outcomes and long-term retention
Financial Oversight (Simple & Practical)
- Work alongside Bookkeeper on financial operations
- Review invoices for:
- Accuracy
- Proper itemization
- Correct billing practices
- Operate within a cash-based system (no debt, no complex reporting)
Process & Workflow Management
- Take over repetitive and routine tasks:
- Mail handling
- Bill approvals
- General decision-making
- Maintain simple, effective systems without overengineering
Continuity & Estate Support
- Serve as co-signer with Bookkeeper if needed
- Assist in maintaining operations and supporting estate execution if required
Ideal Candidate:
- Strong operational leadership experience (military desired, family office, agriculture, or similar)
- Hands-on background with agriculture, ranching, or property operations
- Understands basic equipment and field environments
- High integrity, dependable, and trustworthy
- Strong common sense and decision-making ability
- Ability to balance initiative with restraint (“accelerator vs. brake”)
- Service-oriented mindset with no ego
