Job Description:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a large, progressive dairy operation in Wisconsin seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee daily herd operations and provide leadership across multiple departments.

This is a working management position that requires someone comfortable supervising employees while remaining actively involved with the herd. The Operations Manager will regularly walk pens, evaluate cow health and comfort, identify health concerns, assist employees with diagnosing cows, and step in to demonstrate procedures or provide hands-on assistance when needed.

This is not an office only position, nor is it primarily a general labor role. The successful candidate will provide leadership, organization, accountability, and hands-on support while working closely with ownership, employees, veterinarians, nutritionists, breeding personnel, and other consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee Management:

Provide leadership and direction to employees by organizing daily workflows, communicating expectations, and ensuring responsibilities are completed. Assist with training, mentoring, developing, and holding employees accountable.

Hands-On Herd Management:

Maintain an active presence in the dairy by regularly walking pens, evaluating cow health and comfort, identifying problem cows, assisting employees with diagnosis, and providing hands-on instruction or assistance as needed.

Herd Health Management:

Work closely with the herd crew to maintain herd health and animal care standards. Utilize DairyComp/DelPro to track herd information, make culling recommendations, oversee pharmaceutical inventory, work with veterinarians during herd checks, and communicate with breeding personnel.

Parlor and Milk Quality Management:

Work with employees to maintain and improve SOPs while monitoring milk production, SCC, treatment protocols, and antibiotic withdrawal compliance.

Youngstock Management:

Oversee youngstock health and development, including vaccination and treatment protocols and weaning programs.

Feed Management:

Work with the nutritionist and feeding team to evaluate feeding programs. Utilize TMR Tracker to update rations, monitor pen groupings, and review feed information.

Facility and Grounds Management:

Oversee sanitation and general facility standards. Identify maintenance and repair needs and work with employees and ownership to keep facilities and equipment operating efficiently.
