Ranch Manager

Candidate Description:

This candidate is a fourth generation rancher currently living in western Wyoming. He works in partnership with his family on the family ranch, as well as leases several area ranches. He brings a lifetime of real life experience managing and operating a large ranch. He currently runs 450 mother cows, as well as yearlings. He also does some custom haying and sells hay yearly. He has managed hunting and fishing on the ranch for many years, as well as built numerous ponds to improve fisheries. He has public fishing on their property with the attending “good and bad” that goes along with public access. While leasing several ranches over the years, he has had the opportunity to deal with a wide range of personalities. Though he no longer has full-time employees on the ranch, he has hired and managed numerous people during peak times. His operation consists of a large-scale flood irrigated meadow hay ranch. He helps to manage a full time crew and is proficient at running all types of equipment. He does a large share of the riding on their private and Forest Service grazing allotment and has good horse skills as he grew up riding and participated in high school and college rodeo. His experience also includes the purchasing of ranch supplies and machinery, as well as buying bulls and replacement heifers. . This candidate firmly believes a ranch of large scale would require having a multitude of personal resources to be successful. He has good relationships with people in the fishing and hunting business, including a good friend who made his business building fisheries. He feels confident he could draw on these resources, as well as others, in order to successfully manage any operation. He also strongly believes in listening to an employee’s ideas when making decisions on what works best. This candidate is married and has 2 grown children. His wife is a senior accountant with a CPA firm and is also active in their church and school. He is involved in many community activities such as sports associations, high school coaching, helping with the local FFA chapter and serving on school committees.
